I have some exciting news to share. I will be at the Deerfield Spa located East Stroudsburg, PA during the entire week of July 22, where I will be giving a lecture series on the value of expressions and on the journey of being a self-published author. God does work in amazing ways. I stayed at the spa this past October for a long weekend and met the owner, Joan Wolff. I shared with her my book, which she purchased and then later reached out to me to do an event at her spa for a week in the summer. I am really looking forward to this opportunity and meeting the wonderful new and returning clients that Joan welcomes year after year. If you are looking for a great place to unwind and relax, come out and meet me at Deerfield Spa.

Children’s Book Updates

Over the holidays, I had a break from my day job and some time to pick up the work on my new book project, a children’s book of wise words and witty expressions. I have developed my characters, their storyline, and now need to finish their story and fine tune my approach. Having a well-illustrated children’s book will be an important part of success. Therefore, I have begun doing my research to see how best to produce my book with wonderful illustrations. After publishing my first book, I learned a lot, have more to learn about the ever-changing publishing world, and everything to learn about the children’s book market. I have many ideas and options I need to weed through to determine how best to develop and deliver my new book. I am looking forward to seeing where this new journey will take me and sharing that journey with you as I progress.

New Year’s Wish

May you and your families enjoy a New Year full of peace, good health, and prosperity!

Let me be among the first to wish you a Happy Easter! May the Easter bunny bring you lots of chocolate that does not stick to the hips!

I must say the luck of the Irish was certainly with me in the month of St. Patrick. I had many pleasant surprises including:

New Christian Books, an on line magazine devoted to promoting Christian authors, songs and spreading the word of God’s love, recently asked me if I would be interested in participating in an on line interview that talks about marketing self-published books in the Christian market. To read my interview please click here.

On St. Patrick’s Day, US Catholic, a print and on line magazine that is in conversation with American Catholics, posted an article I submitted titled, “Speaking Irish.” The article focuses on the significant role words play in the Irish culture and how the Irish have relied upon words to help them through their challenges and to keep their faith and sense of humor. Please click here to read the “Speaking Irish.”

On March 10, Daria Anne DiGiovanni of Parasol Communications and a fellow author of “Water Signs” invited me to participate in their BlogTalkRadio program “Writestream Author Chat” to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Please click here to listen to the interview and click here to learn more about Daria’s book Water Signs, which won the Book of the Week Award from Blurb! Talk Radio.

On Friday, March 4, I was invited to do a book signing at Booktowne in Manasquan, NJ. Click here to see pictures from the event. During the winter season Booktowne hosts a wine and cheese event each Friday. I was thrilled to be part of this program where I had the opportunity to meet the wonderful, warm people of Manasquan where a good time was had by all. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you stop by and visit Booktowne at 171 Main Street in Manasquan.
March is the month the Irish wait for all year long. Parades and partying take place all over to celebrate our Irish heritage. The great thing about the Irish is that we truly believe the more the merrier. That’s why we say everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.

Whether you plan to attend a parade, go to the local pub and have a pint, eat corn beef and cabbage or simply have a cup of, let me take this opportunity to wish my Irish and non-Irish friends alike a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Wise Words & Witty Expressions will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day during the month of March with the below events.

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, on March 2, Parcbench.com published “A Granddaughter Collects Irish Grandmother’s Sayings in a Book.”

The article discusses my grandmother’s journey to the United States from Ireland and the wonderful expressions she brought with her to help her navigate life’s ups and downs. Even though my grandmother has long since left this earth, her journey and her wisdom have continued to serve as a sense of pride and comfort through the generations. It is wonderful to see her remembered and honored in articles such as this, especially during the month of St. Patrick’s Day.

On Friday, March 4 from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., I will be at a wine & cheese book signing at:
Booktowne
171 Main Street
Manasquan, NJ

http://www.booktowne.com/Welcome.htm

My interview with Don McCauley of the Author Show, a program dedicated to introducing new authors to the public, will air on March 8, 2011.

My interview is 15 minutes and can be heard only on March 8. Therefore, please mark your calendar and plan to click here to access the interview. In the center of the web page you will see a box that lists all the authors that will be interviewed on March 8. Simply click on “Wise Words & Witty Expressions” and you will be taken directly to my interview.

On Saturday, March 12 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., I will be signing books at:

On Wednesday, February 9, Creative Mojo interviewed me about “Wise Words & Witty Expressions.” Creative Mojo with Mark Lipinski is a live, two-hour entertainment program broadcast on the internet. It’s fun, entertaining, informative, inspirational and illuminating.

I wish you all a very happy Valentine’s Day! May you feel the warmth of your loved ones and may it see you through the extreme weather we have been facing this winter.

I myself had the flu over a two week period in January, which slowed down my book activities quite a bit. However, I did manage to schedule some new events where I will be signing my book. All of the below events are open to the public and some are for very worthy causes, where I will be donating a portion of my book sales. If you are in the area, please be sure to drop in and say hello.

Last month, I mentioned that patch.com would be interviewing me for an article about “Wise Words & Witty Expressions.” Well, the article has been completed and discusses how my grandmother’s journey to the United States from County Mayo Ireland so many years ago still inspires me today. It is such a thrill for me that my grandmother, long since passed and whose life was anything but easy, is now being publicly recognized for her wit and wisdom.

Patch.com is a website of comprehensive and trusted local coverage for individual towns and communities including my hometown of Woodbridge, New Jersey.

National & Global Media Coverage

I had two pleasant surprises as 2010 was coming to an end. First and most touching to my heart was the publication of an article titled “American author’s book is a tribute to her Mayo roots,” in MayoToday.ie, one of the first daily news websites in Ireland dedicated to bringing the latest County Mayo Ireland news to a global audience both online and optimized for mobile devices.

This is such exciting news because the article pays tribute to the life of my grandmother and her ability to navigate some incredible challenges by remembering the wise words and witty expressions that she shared with my mother and my mother shared with me. These expressions have connected generation after generation with simple, common sense wisdom that helps us remember what is important and life and not to take life too seriously.

patch.com, a website of comprehensive and trusted local coverage for individual towns and communities including my hometown of Woodbridge, New Jersey, interviewed me for an article about “Wise Words & Witty Expressions.” This was a terrific surprise and I look forward to sharing the article with you in next month’s newsletter.

Digital Availability of “Wise Words & Witty Expressions”

I am very pleased to announce that Wise Words & Witty Expressions is now available on Smashwords.com in a digital format that is accessible by all reading devices including Kindle, Nook and many others. Not only is my book available on Smashwords, it has also been accepted into their premium catalog where Smashwords will promote my book to the digital marketplace, thereby helping me to gain more awareness for my book. Click here to access my book on Smashwords.com where you can preview the content before you decide to make a purchase.

December Meet the Author Events

On December 4, I participated in book signing at Irish Eyes in Westwood, New Jersey. My mother joined me at this event and we had a great day meeting the many wonderful people of Westwood as well as shopping in the store. Gene and Tara Callaghan are the shop owners and have recently moved to the Westwood location. I would encourage you to visit them for all things Irish.

On December 13, the Vito Mazza Salon in my hometown of Woodbridge, New Jersey invited me to be part of their holiday shopping event. I had the opportunity to meet many of their wonderful clients and sign books that were either personal purchases or gifts for family and friends.

2011

I am very excited about the new opportunities 2011 has in store for “Wise Words & Witty Expressions.” I will begin reaching out to Irish shops and organizations to set up more signings and “meet the author” events and will continue to share my wise and witty Irish expressions by publishing articles on syndicated websites. Of course, as plans become finalized and articles published, I will share them with you.

The Month in Review

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

I hope everyone’s holiday preparations are going well and you are fitting in time to just relax. This has been a great year for my book, as a number of opportunities and pleasant surprises have come my way. I have already started planning for 2011 and over the holidays I will be planning my St. Patrick’s Day events. Now that I have a little more experience in the book world and a little more awareness for my book’s existence, I am hoping to have even more success in 2011.

I know of one exciting event that will be taking place on St. Patrick’s Day 2012. That is not a typo. I said 2012. In my travels, I have had the opportunity to be interviewed by two women who are penning a book about wise Irish women. One of the chapter’s in their book will include the story of the wise Irish women who have impacted my life. After being interviewed, I asked my mother, “Mom, in your life did you ever think that you would be in not one but two books?” She just shook her head. I can’t tell you how exciting this is and I can’t wait to read their book. I had the opportunity to meet the authors, Patricia Connorton Kagerer and Laura Prendergast Gordon, who were in New Jersey from Texas to interview one of the other women in their book, Mary Higgins Clark, wow! We had a wonderful time sharing stories about our books and our Irish ancestry. To learn more about the Tricia, Laura and their book visit them at www.wiseirishwomen.com.

I mentioned in an earlier edition of my newsletter that I am writing a monthly article for the Irish American Cultural Institute’s monthly member newsletter titled, “The Power of Irish Wisdom.” I have also started publishing articles on syndicated websites about the power of Irish wisdom, including Ezinearticles.com. EzineArticles.com is a matching service — bringing real-world experts and ezine publishers together. After my first article submission, I earned Ezinearticles.com expert author status. I plan to spend more time in 2011 writing articles for my blog and syndicated websites. I have really enjoyed writing these creative pieces, as it is quite a departure from the writing I do in my career. To read the articles I have submitted thus far, please click on the below links, which are found on my blogsite:

In November, I received an invitation to be a guest speaker at the Irish Business Association’s monthly meeting where I talked about my book and the power of Irish wisdom. I had a great time meeting the members and sharing stories of our heritage. The Irish Business Association (IBA) is committed to promoting business relationships and personal interaction among Irish-born and Irish-Americans throughout New Jersey.

Wow, the luck of the Irish has certainly been with me this year and I hope it continues to stay with me going forward.

Thank you all for your support and well wishes throughout the year. It really helps to keep me going. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy New Year!

“Wise Words & Witty Expressions” represents the expressions I heard growing up. I would love to hear from you and learn the “Wise Words & Witty Expressions” you remember to help you navigate your way through life’s ups and downs.

Maybe your expressions represent the geographic region of the United States you live in or maybe they are reflective of your ancestry or maybe they are just wise words.

I would love to collect enough expressions from my readers to write a second edition of “Wise Words & Witty Expressions.” Perhaps you will even see your expression in my next book!
The cool days are upon us and the Christmas decorations are already being put up in stores. Now is a great time to consider “Wise Words & Witty Expressions” as a holiday gift for your family, friends and co-workers. “Wise Words & Witty Expressions” also makes a great gift for holiday exchanges. Holiday exchanges usually have a $25 and below price range. Everyone scratches their head about what unique gift would be appropriate within the maximum price range. A copy of “Wise Words & Witty Expressions” makes a great and easy to purchase gift for exchanges and those on your holiday list. Signed copies of “Wise Words & Witty Expressions” will make your gift extra special. Autographed copies are available when you place your book orders through my website www.reneegatz.com.
The Month in Review

October was such a busy month that when I finally turned the page on my calendar the first week of November passed by and I realized I had not yet written my monthly newsletter. I am so pleased to share with you the many events that took place in October.

On October 2, I helped Honey Pies in White House Station, NJ generate some money and awareness for Breast Cancer. The team at Honey Pies was so much fun to work with and we all had a great time. Click here to see a picture from the event and learn more about Honey Pies.

On October 4, I was pleased to support two great charitable organizations, Susan G. Koman Race for a Cure and the New Jersey Coalition for Battered Women. The New Jersey Organization of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO) hosted an author’s night to support these great groups while providing some very talented authors with the opportunity to generate awareness for their books. Congressman Frank Pallone came out to support NJAWBO and purchased a copy of my book. Click here to meet the congressman and learn a bit more about the event.

On October 20, my name was in lights for the first time. I participated in the Barron Arts Center’s Dr. Stephen Kaplan Taste of the Arts Lecture Series in Woodbridge, NJ. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to share my journey to becoming an author with those that attended the event as well as encourage some budding authors. Click here see photos from the event and learn more about the Woodbridge Barron Arts Center.

On October 21, I participated in a tricky tray fund raising event for Beyond Today where I donated two copies of my book. Beyond Today is committed to the development of our local children’s academic future. Click here to learn more about Beyond Today.

On October 23, the Edison-Metuchen YMCA asked me to lead a How to Become Published workshop. I had a wonderful time sharing my experiences with the group and was very encouraged to learn that my efforts and recommendations were right on target. One of the attendees at the event had 20 plus years of experience in the children’s publishing sector.

On October 26, I received my first book order from the U.K. “Wise Words & Witty Expressions is now global!

I am pleased to share that the month of September has been my busiest month so far. Before I headed out on a vacation cruise to Bermuda, I had an interview with BlogTalkRadio’s “Authors Articulating with Jo-Anne Vandermeulen.”

Jo-Anne’s program is dedicated to providing authors with a forum to share their books with her global audience. Jo-Anne and I discussed what prompted me to write “Wise Words & Witty Expressions,” how big a part of my life experience is involved in the content of my book and what the best part of being a first-time author is, to name a few topics. If you missed the interview, you can click here to listen to a replay.

The Saturday I returned from Bermuda, September 18, I attended the Irish Festival in Sea Girt, NJ and had the opportunity to talk with those that visited the Heritage Tent about my book and take some questions. It was great to see those of you that came out to see me. Thank you so much for your support. It means a great deal to me. Please click here to see pictures from the event.

The following Monday evening I was off to the Jersey City Library to participate in a “Meet the Author” event and on Saturday, September 25, I was at the Long Branch, NJ Library for a “Meet the Author Event.” To see pictures from the Long Branch library event, please click here. I want to thank both the Jersey City and Long Branch libraries for having me as a guest speaker. I fully enjoyed meeting the members of your community.

By the way, I highly recommend visiting Bermuda. It is a beautiful and wonderful island to explore and the people of Bermuda make it an extra special place. It was also great to meet some new friends, some of whom will be receiving my newsletter for the first time!

Those of you that knew I was traveling, thank you for keeping me in your thoughts as the hurricane warnings were being reported in September. I got extraordinarily lucky to go the week of September 11. I had amazing weather and completely missed all storms. If I had gone the following week, I would have been re-routed to the Bahamas and missed out on all Bermuda has to offer.

Wise Words & Witty Expressions Celebrates its First Anniversary

Can you believe that on September 27 Wise Words & Witty Expressions will celebrate its first anniversary. What an incredible year it has been.

I remember returning from my vacation to Italy and learning that my first books were shipped. What an amazing feeling to hold your book in your hands for the first time. I thought to myself, this is really happening, all that hard work produced a beautiful book. I was over the moon and so was my mother, who was with me when we both held the book for the first time.

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize my mother for agreeing to come out of retirement for no pay to help me at book signings, drive sales, manage my inventory, shipping, sales receipts and for being a great listener. Thanks Mom! It has been such a joy to work with you on this project!

I would also like to thank all of you for your support, kind notes, encouraging words and for faithfully reading my newsletter each month. I really look forward to writing it so I can share with you the progress my book is making. I am constantly amazed at the new opportunities that present themselves and the new people I get to meet while getting the word out about my book. Having an audience to share your success with just makes it all the more special. Thank you!

Here’s to looking forward to another successful year for Wise Words & Witty Expressions!

The Month in Review

Well, I thought for sure August would be a very slow month, but once again, I was pleasantly surprised.

The Irish American Cultural Institute (IACI) asked me to be a guest writer for their monthly member newsletter. I published my first article in August. I am truly looking forward sharing with the IACI the power of Irish wisdom imparted on me by my family.

I am thrilled to be making a small contribution to the success of an organization devoted to the contributions made by Irish Americans. I am sure my late grandmother would be very proud.

The IACI was founded in 1962 and is the leading Irish American cultural organization. The IACI is a federally recognized 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit national organization devoted to promoting an intelligent appreciation of Ireland and the role and contributions of the Irish in America. The IACI is strictly apolitical and nonsectarian, and is the only Irish American organization that has as its patron, The President of Ireland.

The Irish Echo’s, August 4-10 newspaper edition published an article titled, “Some Summer Reading” where they made some suggestions for books to read this summer. I am very pleased to announce that Wise Words & Witty Expressions was included in their summer reading list.

The Irish Echo is the largest circulated Irish American weekly newspaper with a 50-state subscription base, was founded in 1928 and is a national tabloid found on newsstands in major American cities every Wednesday.

Don’t Forget to Share with Me Your Favorite Wise Words & Witty Expressions

Wise Words & Witty Expressions represents the expressions I heard growing up.

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I certainly have been. In fact, I have been far busier this past July than I had imaged I would be. I had some very exciting events and book news. On July 16, I participated in the Edison, NJ Barnes & Noble local author book signing, which was a huge success for all the authors attending. There is an incredible amount of talent in New Jersey and it was certainly on display that evening. Click here to see pictures from the event.

On July 22, Lillian Cauldwell of Passionate Internet Voices Radio interviewed me regarding “Wise Words & Witty Expressions” and we discussed the power of expression, how my book was created and some of Lillian and my favorite expressions. Click here to listen to a replay of the interview.

On July 13, Cathy B. Stucker of Selling Books interviewed me about “Wise Words & Witty Expressions.” In the interview, Cathy asked among other questions:

What inspired you to write your book?

Did you learn anything from writing this book? What?

What is the best advice you could give other writers about writing or publishing?

I am also pleased to announce that the Irish Centre in Spring Lake, NJ is now carrying “Wise Words & Witty Expressions.” The Irish Centre is a cozy boutique in quaint Spring Lake, New Jersey and an on-line secure store at NJirish.com. Whether you choose to stop in and visit with Irish Centre while strolling down the picturesque main street of their lovely seaside resort community or order from them while cruising the Internet, their staff members have many years of experience with the Irish Centre and are well informed on all things Irish. Click here to visit the Irish Centre’s website.
