In honor of Mother’s Day, I want to share an expression from the chapter in my book titled, “Especially for Mom’s.”  I think this expression conveys the sum total of how a mother feels about her children.

As my mother tucked me into bed she always said:

“Sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite.”  This expression was then preceded by her making the sign of the cross on my forehead and saying, “God Bless You.”

The reason this is the sum total of a mother’s feelings toward her children is that bedtime is her favorite time of the day.  She can now recover from an endless day of childhood pranks and undoubtedly bad behavior or at the very least considerable worry for safety or whether her children are developing good habits.  At the same time, as much as she is drained from worry and work, she expresses her never ending love for her children no matter how difficult the task of raising them can be by asking God to bless them.
