On December 5, I participated in the East Brunswick Friends of the Library’s first Holiday Bazaar where I had a great time and met many wonderful and inspiring people. There was one person that stopped by my table that was extra special and truly touched my heart. Marion, a 97 year old resident of East Brunswick who told me she will be 98 in January, stopped by to tell me she read about my book in the Sentinel newspaper and came out to especially meet me and purchase my book.
Now Marion is no shrinking violet. She walks around very well with the use of her walker, is a sharp dresser, independent and joy to spend time with. I listened to her in amazement as she talked to my mother and me about her life and all that she has witnessed and her incredible journey. She was especially funny when she was describing cranky senior citizens. She just can’t understand that type of behavior.
It occurred to me as she was speaking to us that this is a woman with an amazingly positive attitude and an inspiration to us all. She said life was not always easy but it was always good. Now there are some wise words if I ever heard them.
Meeting someone like Marion was something I could never have anticipated when I set out to write my book but it sure is an extra special bonus as she is a living testament to what a positive attitude can do for your life.
